2The European Commission defines UFT as “the movement of freight vehicles whose primary purpose is to carry goods into, out of and within urban areas” (MDS 2012). But the it also provides a very similar definition of ’urban logistics’: “[…] the movement of goods, equipment and waste into, out, from, within or through an urban area” (European Commission 2013a). For this reason, the choice here is to consider the two expressions as synonyms and to use only “UFT”, systematically replacing “urban logistics” with “UFT” every time the research incurred in the former expression.
